Krista Broeckx is a Curatorial Assistant, Canadian Art at the National Gallery of Canada. Following the completion of her Master’s degree in Art History at Carleton University, Ottawa, she joined the National Gallery’s Canadian Art Department in 2016. She contributed to the development and production of the National Gallery’s major touring exhibition, Canada and Impressionism: New Horizons (Munich, July­–Nov. 2019; Lausanne, Jan.–May 2020; Montpellier, Sept. 2020- Jan 2021; Ottawa, Feb. 2021–May 2021). She is co-author of an important survey of the development of Impressionism in Canada, “Chronology: Canadian Impressionism at Home and Abroad” in Canada and Impressionism: New Horizons 1880–1930. Broeckx has also published on the connection between landscape painting and nation-building in mid-19^th century Canada in “Painting a Settler Nation: Frederick Verner and the Canadian West,” RENDER: The Carleton Graduate Journal of Art and Culture 4 (2016). She is a regular contributor to NGC Magazine, including most recently “Mary Hiester Reid’s Interiors as Expressions of Self” (September 2020), and “Framing the Modern: Katherine by Clarence Gagnon” (February 2020).
